Episode 6: Classroom Management with Dr. Alene Harris, Part 2

Doc returns to talk student behavior, building trusting relationships with students, and balancing personal life with work life. As teachers, we are asked to do a lot for our students, but we’re only human (and so are they). In this episode, Doc and I discuss how teachers can go easy on themselves, and we dig into mindsets that give students opportunities to defy expectations rather than live up to reputation.

Takeaways from this week’s episode: 1) Avoid taking student behavior personally. Most of the time – almost all the time – it’s not about you. 2) Teachers are heroes, whether we want to be or not. But we don’t have to be everything for every student. 3) Prioritize what you need to do as a teacher and as a person so that what doesn’t get done is left out by choice, not default.
